I want everybody to take a look at this movie poster again... and let it all sink in. Is this for real? Well, that depends on what you consider to be real. Jet Bike Steve, the coolest Robin Hoodesque pirate to ever raid a rich business executive yacht, is technically just a thought in actor Simon Pegg's head. He imagined the character and the crazy story that goes with it, but brought it to life in the most unlikely of places: The Twitterverse. Back in March, Pegg and longtime collaborator Nick Frost started bantering back in forth about a proposed action film starring Pegg as a former pirate who now raids rich businessman's boats and makes some confiscations in the name of the poor. His partner, played by Frost, would be named Thor. This dynamic duo would ride jet-ski's on the high seas (Pegg's jet ski would be named the Barack-uda...fuckng awesome!) and use whales and other marine life to accomplish their goals. The conversation between Frost and Pegg was probably nothing more then a joke, but since these two are true fanboys, they took it one step further... maybe not one step, more like 1,000 steps. Since they have tons of followers, it didn't take long for the Jet Bike Steve craze to jump off and go bananas. First, we got the above movie poster for the first installment, Jet Bike Steve and the Bikini Thief. This was followed by more posters, speculation of cast members, and director Edgar Wright joining in on the fun, saying he would direct his two Shaun of the Dead co-stars in a JBS movie. They even have a prototype for a action figure.
Even though its all a figment of these 3 friends imaginations, could we ever really see a Jet Bike Steve movie? God I hope so. Enjoy these pics for now, and follow these guys on JBS twitter page here, Simon Pegg's twitter page here, Nick Frost's twitter page here, and Edgar Wright's twitter page here. Lets hope they get this thing done!!!!
This is the first I'm hearing of this all. Thanks Mike. If this gets made into a film...which I suspect it will....I am unboard! (no pun intended)
